Blue Notes厂牌1939年由Alfred Lion创立于美国，以录制爵士乐著称（也出一些布鲁斯）。在该公司发展史上，有两个不容忽视的人。他们是1953年加入的录音室Rudy Van Gelder与1956年加入的封面设计师Reid Miles。前者为Blue Note留下了大量优质的录音，后者设计出了精美的封面，使Blue Note的唱片是既好听又好看。1965年，该公司被Liberty公司收购，1985年Liberty又被EMI的Capital公司收购。由于Liberty在五六十年代留下了不少优秀的录音，于是他们在激光唱片出现后便将以前的录音作筛选后做了一个“鉴赏家系列”，使这些旧录音焕发出新的生命。1981年，“Blue Note俱乐部”在纽约的格林威治村成立，俱乐部邀请爵士与布鲁斯音乐的名家前来演出。B.B.King，Oscar Peterson，Dizzy Gillespie等名家都是其常客，并视俱乐部是他们的“家”。
