详细介绍:
This album is the lovechild of two Canadian giants. In 1998, Richie Hawtin, a produce from Windsor, Ontario, released the album Consumed under his alias, Plastikman. It went on to become a techno classic that took the dancefloors by storm. It’s this record that caught the attention of Chilly Gonzales, the electronic jack-of-all-trades from Quebec who was named king of the piano after his 2004 album, Solo Piano. Gonzales was obssessed with Consumed, which broke away from the standard 4/4 techno, and he had fun layering his piano over the top. “The album%27s unique timing structure pushed me towards an idea of composing accompanying piano pieces (counterparts) for each of the tracks”, he explains. Motreal-based producer Tiga, owner of the label Turbo Recordings, was the one who convinced Richie Hawtin to release this project. Hawtin, who was worried that someone else might “change” the album, finally agreed to allow his work to be remixed on the condition that he too could remix the album with these new elements in mind. This was a terrifying prospect for Gonzales, who says it was going from a relationship that I%27ve been having for two years with a piece of work, and now is the very beginning of a relationship with a person.” Consequently, there’s a deeply human approach behind Consumed in Key: a challenging project which saw two master musicians come together to revisit an album already considered a classic. Plastikman%27s dark and minimalist techno, which can be so ambient and experimental, takes on a pop of colour with Gonzales%27 melodic piano; much like a dark tunnel that’s gradually being filled with bright light. This album offers a truly powerful and transcendent experience. © Smaël Bouaici/Qobuz
